"It would be great if concrete structures were to be labelled as sustainable too. Current opportunities exceed expectations and developments are accelerating."

Introduction

During my Structural Design studies at TU Eindhoven, I became interested in experimental and innovative structural technologies. In particular with respect to concrete as a material. In 2016, after my studies, I joined ABT as a civil engineering specialist. Since then, I’ve been involved as a structural engineer within the ‘Concrete Special’ department in all kinds of projects, from small to large. Frequently, the experimental and investigative character is still a central theme.

What I do at ABT

Within the ‘Concrete Specials’ department, as the name suggests, we provide special structural advice on concrete structures. As consultants, we look beyond the standard and offer assistance in cases of damage or technical questions. In recent years, I have specialised in the structural assessment and strengthening of concrete structures with carbon adhesive reinforcement or the design of structural elements in combination with steel fibres. As the preservation of concrete structures is becoming increasingly important, I focused on the application of more alternative reinforcements, such as basalt or glass fibre possibly combined with structural macro fibres.

My dream for the future

It would be great if concrete structures were to be labelled as sustainable as well. Current opportunities exceed expectations and developments are accelerating. As consultants, we must contribute to these developments to ensure that the impact of construction on the environment and the climate is marginal.
