Introduction

Welcome! My name is Luciano van Leeuwen, specialist in sustainable concrete innovations. My passion is to design concrete mixtures with the lowest possible CO2 emissions per application. I started working for ABT in 2021, this is my first job after my studies. In terms of background, I am an outsider, having studied Chemical Engineering & Technology. However, my chemical knowledge proves useful for designing alternative, sustainable concrete mixtures and understanding the core of certain issues.

What I do at ABT

My official position is ‘civil engineering specialist’, and I mainly deal with concrete technology. My areas of expertise are concrete technology, cement technology, sustainability and chemical issues in construction engineering. I apply these to various concrete manufacturers when they request support for sustainable alternatives to their current concrete mixtures with corresponding regulations in mind. We also like to support raw material concrete suppliers with their sales. I like to use my scientific background to translate theoretical innovations into practice. I like to be approached by customers to support their sustainable alternatives for concrete applications. With the current/future price increases of Portland cement and blast furnace slag, I expect the search for alternative binders to become increasingly important.

My dream for the future

My vision is to design CO2-neutral concrete mixtures together with the customer in applications where this is realistic. To contribute actively to a cleaner future.
