Government buildings

As a leading architectural consultancy, we understand the ambitious sustainability goals of the government. Our aim is not only to meet but to exceed these objectives by providing innovative solutions that go beyond sustainability expectations.
The government has committed to climate-adaptive, nature-inclusive, and circular construction, as well as reducing energy consumption. ABT elevates these ambitions by enabling buildings to communicate and function harmoniously with their surroundings. Our expertise includes implementing smart building solutions and integrating heat and energy networks, playing a crucial role in the pursuit of sustainability.
An essential aspect of energy efficiency lies in proper building envelope insulation and intelligent design of building systems. ABT can support you with sustainability assessments and advise on circular and biobased designs to reduce energy consumption. We tailor solutions to meet the specific needs of your government buildings.
In an era where governments increasingly opt for ‘Design & Build’ or ‘Design, Build, Finance, Maintain’ contracts (DBFM), ABT offers an integrated approach. Together with our partners, we form a consortium that not only designs and constructs but also provides financing if desired. This approach allows governments to leverage market knowledge and funding opportunities while promoting efficiency.
Within the dynamic and innovative context of DBFM contracts, ABT ensures the quality and reliability that governments demand. We act as a consortium partner, process facilitator, and/or quality overseer, depending on the context. Our ability to work seamlessly and multidisciplinarily within a consortium makes us the ideal partner for your project.
Experience
In recent years, ABT has worked on prominent government buildings. For instance:
- The renovation of the Binnenhof involved ABT’s responsibility for the structural, geotechnical, and architectural aspects of the Raad van State (Council of State) sections, as well as the constructive and geotechnical aspects of the Eerste Kamer (Senate) sections.
- ABT played a crucial role in realizing the architectural concepts of Forum Groningen.
Additionally, during the construction of the new Amsterdam courthouse, ABT not only initiated the consortium but also led the comprehensive technical design. Our responsibilities included structure, foundation, building physics, installations, acoustics, security, and fire safety. These projects represent just a glimpse of our extensive portfolio, demonstrating our expertise and commitment to sustainability and quality.
