Civil engineering: laying the foundations for a future-proof Netherlands

Our energy grid is overloaded. Bridges and viaducts require smart repairs following years of intensive use. And in the meantime, we must protect the Netherlands from the effects of climate change. To arrive at appropriate, future-proof solutions, the ABT Civiel team combines high-calibre geotechnical, structural and concrete expertise.

Our expertise: complex civil engineering issues

The major societal challenges facing the Netherlands – from the energy transition to climate adaptation – place high demands on our civil infrastructure. ABT Civiel focuses on complex issues and makes a difference by combining specialist expertise with a holistic approach: from foundations to concrete structures, and from the regional to the international level.

A clear focus

Our focus is on three key areas:

  • The energy transition: we are strengthening, making more sustainable and expanding our energy network by designing the substructures for high-voltage power lines, battery parks for local energy generation and storage, substations, and facilitating wind energy through state-of-the-art foundation designs.
  • Infrastructure: through smart solutions, we contribute to the reassessment and reinforcement of existing civil infrastructure. This includes the reinforcement of engineering structures suffering from material fatigue after decades of use, and the construction of structural civil infrastructure for roads and railways.
  • Climate adaptation: we contribute to our country’s flood defences through, amongst other things, flood defence projects and area development.

Pioneering in a changing market

For many current and future challenges, there is as yet no standard solution. This calls for a pioneering spirit: the courage to experiment, to approach problems from a different angle and to push the boundaries of technology. Through strategic collaboration with specialist partners, continuous investment in technical knowledge and by demonstrating boldness, we solve complex problems. We deliberately choose high-quality, specialist projects where our expertise truly makes a difference. Making an impact with technically advanced solutions to complex civil engineering challenges – that is our goal.

“As far as I’m concerned, we should aim to preserve civil engineering structures and only replace them once all options and possibilities for their preservation have been considered. There are often more options than it might seem at first glance!”
