“My passion lies in combining physics and the built environment to create comfortable, sustainable, and safe buildings.”

Introduction

My name is Christa Drolenga. In 1998, I completed my studies in Architecture at TU Eindhoven. With 15 years of experience at a monodisciplinary consultancy in the field of building physics, I joined ABT in 2013 because I believe in the power of integrated collaboration with all the technical disciplines that ABT has in-house.

What I do at ABT

At ABT, I am involved in building physics, acoustics, and fire safety consulting within the Building Physics knowledge group. From 2019 to 2023, I also led HE advisors in Rotterdam, a mechanical engineering consultancy that, like ABT, is part of Oosterhoff. My passion lies in combining physics and the built environment to create comfortable, sustainable, and safe buildings. I value clear and open communication, and within projects, I act as a ‘bridge builder’ between clients and specialists, managing both technical content and process. Additionally, I am co-responsible for knowledge development and innovation within ABT as part of the TIKK steering group.

My dream for the future

My dream for the future is to continue contributing to the realization of comfortable and sustainable buildings. I want to further develop my role at ABT and continue contributing to the integration of physics and the built environment. My aim is to have a positive impact both technically and process-wise, leveraging the multidisciplinary collaboration within ABT to tackle various challenging new construction and renovation projects.

Schiphol Terminal

Schiphol Terminal

Schiphol Terminal

In 2017, Schiphol presented the question of what a new terminal, fully integrated into the existing airport, could look like. The 'One Terminal concept' was the central idea; the airport not as a collection of more or less stand-alone terminals, but as a compact unit housing all facilities under one roof. The design is to contribute to a good travel experience, an excellent travel process, sustainability and is future-proof.

NewCold cold storage facility

NewCold cold storage facility

A cold storage facility designed as an integrated machine: that is the innovative, newly to be built logistics location of NewCold in Dinteloord. It fits into a strategy of extreme efficiency and sustainability. The first pile-driving took place in 2024, and the building will be completed in 2025. ABT is working with five sister companies of Oosterhoff on the integral design of this challenging project.

Science Campus phase 2A – Gorlaeus building Leiden University

An inspiring building on the Science Campus where students and teachers feel comfortable and at ease. That is the Gorlaeus building at the Leiden Bio Science Park. The building of Leiden University has now been expanded with a new section, Science Campus phase 2A.

World Trade Center Utrecht

World Trade Center Utrecht

With the completion of the new World Trade Center (WTC), the skyline of Utrecht has been further expanded. A large-scale redevelopment of the station area created space for a WTC at the renewed Jaarbeursplein, right next to Utrecht Central Station. ABT was involved as a structural engineer in this showpiece in the heart of the city.
