Introduction

I work as a façades and glass consultant at ABT and my personal passion and drive is  sustainability and innovation. In early 2019, I chose ABT, which led to a fantastic new job. Prior to this, I had worked for Brakel Atmos (now Kingspan Light&Air) for almost twenty years. I had known ABT for fifteen years from working together on projects such as Forum Coolsingel and Naturalis Leiden. I had the ambition to work in consulting. ABT was my first choice as an engineering firm.

What I do at ABT

As the leader of the knowledge group Façades&Glass, I can fulfil my ambitions and motivations. I focus on the design of façades and roofs from the initial sketch to the execution design. Damage assessment is also part of my work. I am concerned with the issue of integrating bio-based materials and nature inclusiveness into our designs. Tension between the manufacturability and feasibility of a design on the one hand and the ambitions of clients and architects on the other makes for a fascinating role of consultant. Every day I get to learn and I can share and apply my knowledge.

My dream for the future

I believe that in the near future, façades will transform from hard indoor-outdoor separations to soft sensory transitions, whereby we will experience all benefits of the outdoors inside. Core values are modular, remountable, demountable, sustainable, circular, bio-based and innovative. It feels good to be a consultant contributing to these values!
