Introduction

My name is Kanter Eefting. I graduated as an architect from TU Delft in 2014, specializing in renovation and transformation. After my studies, it became clear that I am not only interested in the creative aspects of design projects but also in the technical side and feasibility. In the following years, I worked at an architectural consultancy firm, where I developed a broad skill set. This provided me with a solid foundation, but I was ready for more depth and specialization. Due to the challenging, integrated, and architecturally unique projects we get to work on, ABT immediately felt like a good match.

What I do at ABT

Since 2021, I have developed into an all-round fire safety specialist at ABT. I enjoy working in a team and being involved from the concept phase. Because fire safety intersects with many other disciplines, collaboration is essential. I get energized by thinking along in solutions and not just setting the requirements. In a good plan, fire safety supports the architecture rather than detracting from it. My strength lies in those intersections.

My dream for the future

Developments in the market are progressing rapidly, especially in the area of sustainability. Fire safety tends to lag behind. In an ideal future, fire safety would be able to quickly adapt to developments and even lead in innovation.

Shell campus: sustainability and renovation C30

The C30 building is a national monument of 25,000m² GLA. The original building dates back to 1916, the extensions to 1928 and 1929. Originally part of Shell's headquarters, it is now part of the Shell Campus The Hague. Between 2018 and 2022, the building was renovated and made more sustainable. An intensive process requiring a high level of ambition. Throughout the implementation process, ABT served as Architect of Record for Shell.

Houtlab Nieuwkuijk

Houtlab is a wooden building with a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) load-bearing structure, located along the A59. It is a sustainable, circular, and inspiring production and office space where collaboration is key. Our sister company, Adviesbureau Lüning, was responsible for the construction design. ABT provided the building physics, acoustics, fire safety, and installation engineering consultancy.
