“I believe that strong project control and information management are the key to successful outcomes.”

Introduction

My name is Kobus van der Zwaal, and I studied Maritime Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Before joining ABT, I gained experience in various roles within shipbuilding, civil engineering and utility construction. This broad background has given me a wide perspective on design and construction processes, enabling me to confidently advise on integrated solutions.

My passion lies in optimising processes within complex projects, particularly in civil engineering. I believe that strong project control and information management are key to successful outcomes. I am fascinated by how smart systems and standardisation not only increase efficiency but also create room for creativity and innovation.

What I do at ABT

In my role as a consultant, I focus on managing time, cost and quality within projects, using information management and document control to keep information structured and accessible. I also work with systems engineering and design methodologies to connect technology, processes and people. Standardisation plays an important role in this, as uniform approaches contribute to faster and more efficient project delivery. Within projects, I help teams bring structure to complex challenges and develop methods that improve collaboration and minimise risks.

Over the years, I have further specialised within ABT in digital processes and integrated design approaches. Clients can turn to me for questions about efficiently structuring project information, ensuring quality and traceability in the design process, and applying standardisation and automation to shorten turnaround times.

My dream for the future

My ambition is to fully decouple design from production, so that generating design outputs requires almost no time. This allows team members to focus on deepening their expertise and addressing the unique aspects of each project. This not only adds value but also significantly shortens project timelines. I want to contribute to a future in which technology and standardisation pave the way for creativity and innovation.

De Droogbak

Renovation De Droogbak

Renovation De Droogbak

The majestic building De Droogbak is a real eye-catcher. It is also situated in an absolute prime location, directly west of Amsterdam’s Central Station. This beautiful 19th-century office building underwent a remarkable makeover in just a year and a half. ABT provided comprehensive construction and technical advice.
Schiphol Terminal

Schiphol Terminal

Schiphol Terminal

In 2017, Schiphol presented the question of what a new terminal, fully integrated into the existing airport, could look like. The 'One Terminal concept' was the central idea; the airport not as a collection of more or less stand-alone terminals, but as a compact unit housing all facilities under one roof. The design is to contribute to a good travel experience, an excellent travel process, sustainability and is future-proof.

Wisperweide

Wisperweide

A design that fulfills exceptionally high sustainability ambitions. This is the newly to be developed Wisperweide in Weesp, the first school to be realized within the Innovation Partnership School Buildings Amsterdam. The school building is Paris Proof, detachable, and biobased. It is an example of the circular ambitions of the municipality of Amsterdam. ABT was closely involved in the development of the applied HoutKern Construction Method.

High-voltage project Rilland–Moerdijk

TenneT, the operator of the national high‑voltage grid, is constructing a critical 380 kV transmission connection between Rilland and Tilburg as part of the Borssele–Tilburg corridor. Strukton Wegen & Beton won the Rilland–Moerdijk contract section. This section comprises 127 tower locations, 95 of which are new. abtWassenaar and ABT are providing the foundation designs for the new transmission towers.
