Introduction

My name is Tom Huizer and I have enjoyed working for ABT since 1998. I started as an intern in the newly established architecture consulting group at the Delft office. Through the position of draughtsman and construction project manager, I progressed to become a structural designer specializing in BIM. While studying Architecture at Delft University of Technology, I was triggered to design makeable architecture. Especially the practical side of building appeals to me. In my spare time I am a true DIY-er. The variety in my work between technology, elaboration and process combined with a well-matched team give me energy! My motivation is being a connector within a design team and actually shape a project together.

What I do at ABT

At ABT, I am an architectural designer and try to connect the architect stage and the makeability within construction. At times I am the design leader and at other times I am a specialist. I also have a number of internal positions: group head of construction, planner and supervisor. As a design leader, I like to use BIM as a tool to achieve an integrated and coordinated design. From my technical content knowledge, I set up a design team and we work together within a BIM environment. You can call me for structural engineering of complex projects, even when the impossible must be realized. Specifically with an emphasis on execution and deployment of BIM.

My dream for the future

The focus within building assignments is increasingly on a more sustainable living environment that will also require nature-inclusive construction. The use of new technologies and innovations often tells us what the impact of our designs will be.
