Introduction
After completing my studies in building physics at TU Eindhoven, I started as a specialist in building physics at Cauberg-Huygen. From there, I grew into the role of specialist in fire safety. Within ABT, I am a design-supporting and solution-oriented partner in design and construction teams for both new construction and renovation projects.
What I do at ABT
My passion as a fire safety consultant lies in bringing together all the components that determine the safety of a building. I enjoy conceptually shaping fire safety from both a technical and organizational perspective. Especially when the issues are not rule-based but more risk-based. This ensures that buildings not only comply with laws and regulations but are also genuinely safe. The fun part of my job is the intersections with almost all disciplines in a design or construction process. This means you always have to look beyond your field and weigh the pros and cons.
As a specialist, it gives me satisfaction to train and enthuse colleagues. I think this also reflects in my interactions with clients and customers. ABT appreciates this way of training and coaching colleagues. In this capacity, technical mentorship has also been established, which suits me perfectly.
My dream for the future
With the continuous stream of new developments in construction, the field of fire safety will remain relevant in the future. This is evident, for example, in the area of new sustainable building materials and construction methods (such as biobased and timber constructions), renewable energy forms (hydrogen and electrification), or increasingly taller high-rise buildings. These developments constantly require reassessment of which risks are still acceptable and when a building is considered fire-safe.
