ABT helps clients to make informed decisions right from the outset regarding structural flexibility, future scenarios, the use of materials and the level of investment. Maintenance Sophia Children’s Hospital

In 2023, Erasmus MC definitively decided to move the Sophia Children’s Hospital (Sophia Kinderziekenhuis, SKZ) to a new healthcare building on 's-Gravendijkwal in Rotterdam. This new building is expected to be completed in 2031 to accommodate all the current functions of the Sophia Children’s Hospital.

For more than 8 years, extensive efforts have been made on the new state-of-the-art university hospital with an area of 207,000 m². On the site of the existing hospital, a completely new Erasmus MC has been realized where care, research, and education come together. ABT worked as the technical designer on behalf of EGM architects bv and was responsible for construction management.

The renovation of the Ca-building was complex in several ways: due to the existing infrastructure, the phased renovation where the building remained partially in use 24/7, and its constrained location. ABT was involved as a technical designer from the design phase through specifications and tendering. Additionally, we played the role of construction manager and principal supervisor from execution preparation to completion and aftercare.

Tergooi MC

A hospital for the entire Gooi- and Vecht region, that is the new central hospital and associated Tergooi MC Clinics in Hilversum. In 2023, the current hospitals of Blaricum and Hilversum will move to the new hospital. ABT is responsible for contract management, project management, management direction and supervision.

Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland

Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland

Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland has started the construction of a new, sustainable, and energy-efficient hospital building next to the current Franciscus Gasthuis. The new building, which will open in 2026, facilitates healthcare innovation and is more compact, flexible, and sustainable. ABT is involved in many areas as an advisor: in geotechnics, structures, project management, building physics and acoustics, and coordination of monitoring.

Amphia Hospital

The Amphia Hospital in Breda received the key to the new building location at Molengracht in 2021. ABT advised on the construction, foundation, and excavation, and monitored the structural construction costs.

Despite its modest size, the project showcases all aspects of successful timber construction: beauty, sustainability, and craftsmanship come together here. ABT provided the structural advice.

St Jansdal Hospital has a long development history, during which ABT has been involved as lead structural engineer and geotechnical consultant since the original construction in 1986. After approximately twenty years of intensive use, the need arose for targeted renewal. This led to a master plan that builds upon the existing structure and, through flexibility and future-proof design, accommodates growth.
