The design phase is the first and most impactful stage. What are the opportunities for saving material within the given task? Our structural and geotechnical specialists work closely together, exploring and testing possibilities for the best possible design. Examples of proven results with this approach include:

• Carrying out (test) pre-loads that allow floors to be founded on steel and omit the pile foundation.
• Combining an optimal pile plan with an optimal floor design, minimizing the amount of material used for the floor and foundation.
• Reuse of existing piles in repurposing projects.
• Integrating structural and temporary underwater concrete floors. This will provide thinner floors as well as reducing the chance of any leakage.

Innovations

In addition to savings in design, innovations can also reduce environmental impact. We have achieved successful results with the use of admixtures and with alternative concrete mix compositions for shrinkage reduction, self-healing, alkaline activation or material reuse for the sake of circularity.
